Gravijump is a game developed as part of the University of Chicago Game Design Club's Development Track from September to November 2022. I worked as a level designer, programmer, and sound designer on this project. Our team was challenged to recreate a classic game and add our own twist to it; we were inspired by infinite runners such as Doodle Jump and Jetpack Joyride.
With the size of this project, all 6 of our members served multiple roles on the team. We met weekly to determine goals for the next week, as well as assign tasks for each person working on it.
Early on in the game, I worked on the sound design, while other team members developed the basic code structure for the mechanics and some basic assets were being drawn. As our first draft began to come together, I put more focus on the implementation of many of our sound and visual assets, as well as building on the basic concepts we already had to create more complex and interesting features.
As we implemented our last few features, my focus switched again to finishing touches. I worked a lot in the last couple of weeks on specific levels that could be encountered within the runner, and I helped to implement the statistics board, as well as the end card, while the rest of the team tackled finalizing sprites and bug fixing.
This experience taught me a lot about the process of development for a video game—namely, navigation of and familiarity with Unity. By serving multiple roles, I got a good understanding of many of the facets of the development procedure.
